Goro Mitchell was born and raised in East Palo Alto, CA and is the former Assistant Director of the Southern Center for Studies in Public Policy in Atlanta, where he was employed for more than 10 years. Mitchell has taught Statistics and Sociology at Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse College. He has a Masters in City Planning from Georgia Tech and a Masters in Political Science from Clark Atlanta University.

Goro has published chapters on various issues including technology diffusion in Atlanta, employment, municipal budgeting, environmental justice, minority manufacturing, transportation justice, minority representation, quality of life, health and others. He has conducted research for projects funded by Environmental Protection Agency, CH2M Hill Engineering, Cambridge Systematics, Federal Highway Administration, the Ford Foundation, the City of Atlanta, The Hewlett Foundation and others.

Goro has performed technical assistance work for numerous grassroots organizations including: Southern Organizing Committee for Social and Economic Change (Atlanta), The Georgia Coalition for a People’s Agenda (Atlanta), Save the People (Brunswick, GA); Community Legal Services of East Palo Alto, Youth United for Community Action (East Palo Alto, CA) and the Latino and African American Committees of the Sacramento Transportation & Air Quality Collaborative.

Goro is on the board of directors of the East Palo Alto Center for Community Media and Community Legal Services of East Palo Alto. Goro is also a member of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s, Minority Citizens Advisory Committee and the East Palo Alto Planning Commission. In addition, Goro is affiliated with the African American Leadership Summit, the Coalition for Change and numerous other formal and informal organizations and initiatives.
