Rashid was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA and is the Director of Operations and the Director of Nonprofit Incubator at the Community Development Institute (CDI). He has ten years of experience in the nonprofit sector. Prior to CDI, Rashid worked as a Researcher for the Southern Center for Studies in Public Policy (SCSPP) and has co-authored program evaluation reports for the Atlanta Housing Authority and the Annie E. Casey Foundation. In addition, he conducted environmental research for the Army Environmental Policy Institute (AEPI) where he served as a Senior Analyst responsible for the Environmental Legislative Research and Monitoring Program (ELRAMP). He has conducted research for various projects including Atlanta Technical College, the Arthur Blank Family Foundation, Cambridge Systematics, the Du Bois Institute, Federal Highway Works Administration, and the Ford Foundation. Rashid has also authored and co-authored peer reviewed chapters in the annual publications The Status of Black Atlanta and the Georgia Legislative Review.
He is currently CDI’s project manager on a project titled: Transforming Philanthropy in Communities of Color which is led by the National Community Development Institute and funded by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation. He has managed more than $2 million in funds on behalf of CDI and its fiscal programs and is responsible for human resources, fund management, benefit administration, administrative support and marketing material production. Herd has an extensive background in customer service, project management and business consulting and has worked for Delta Airlines and Construction Market Data. He has a B. A. in Political Science from Morehouse College and recently completed a professional course for consultants administered by NCDI to provide culturally based training and assistance in communities of color.
